British Hang Gliding & Paragliding Association
The British Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association (BHPA) is the recognised UK governing body for what is legally defined as hang gliding, a term which includes the disciplines of hang gliding, paragliding, parascending, paramotoring, powered hang gliding, both foot launched and launched using undercarriage, and human powered flight.
The BHPA sets standards for training through its registered and inspected schools, and issues pilot ratings for flying the various types of aircraft it controls.
The BHPA provides third party liability insurance cover for all its members and produces a monthly magazine, Skywings, which, in addition to hard copies posted to members, is freely available online at skywingsmag.co.uk.
The BHPA is a founder member of the European Hang Gliding and Paragliding Union and in conjunction with the EHPU and other international bodies it administers airworthiness standards for these aircraft.
